What should Parliament be focusing on?

It's been a busy week in and around the constituency- meetings with the Chief Executives of Deriford Hospital and Plymouth Primary Care Trust and a discussion with the Council about the future of the Naval Base. I've made various trips to local schools and had appointments with constituents, trying to address their problems and concerns about all kinds of issues.

Things have been equally hectic in Westminster, but it was a shorter working week in preparation for the State Opening of Parliament. The Queen is due to make her annual speech outlining what the Government has in store for the next 12 months. There are sure to be a range of views about the new laws they plan to introduce.

I'm interested to hear opinions about what YOU think the Government should be concentrating on. What is the most important issue facing the country over the coming year? Have you got any burning questions for me to put to the Prime Minister? Or another cabinet minister perhaps? Sometimes people tell me politicians are out of touch with how the general public feel- I'm keen to hear what's important to those I represent so I can push for Westminster to tackle the most important issues.

The response to my last post was fantastic- many thanks to those who contributed and I look forward to hearing from even more of you this week.

Best Wishes,

Gary

The first and foremost subject for Parliament to focus on is the defence of this nation from the threat of terrorism. The stark warning earlier this week from Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, head of MI5,that her agents are struggling to contain a rapidly-growing terrorist threat simply fills me with total horror. With 30 top-priority plots currently under investigation and intelligence reports that militants are actively trying to recruit teenagers as suicide bombers demands urgent attention from the Government. Her staff are said to be monitoring as many as 200 groupings or networks comprising of more than 1,600 individuals "who are actively engaged in plotting or facilitating , terrorists acts both here and overseas" Dame Eliza also said, "We need to be alert to attempts to radicalise and indoctrinate our youth and to seek to counter it." A warning such as that from such an eminent person really needs to be taken seriously and I concur with her sentiments. It will be difficult for her Agents to infiltrate such groups simply by virtue of the age profile of those youngsters being targeted by the militants. We must not wait for another 9/11 or 7/7 before taking every conceivable initiative available to the security services to help protect us. I shall be flying to USA on vacation shortly and already I am feeling apprehensive. Isn't this exacting what the terrorists want us to feel like, living in constant fear of attack?. I would like you to ask the Prime Minister to consider establishing a fund to offer substantial cash rewards to anyone providing information leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of anyone known or suspected of conspiring to commit acts of terrorism. Something along the lines of what Crimestoppers do after an appalling crime. This initiative would be aimed at rewards for information before the catastrophe takes place. Prevention being the key factor. In a conspiracy there will always be a weak link who will be tempted by greed and the get rich quick mentality. Principles often go out of the window when such opportunities present themselves. Just a thought.

I completely agree with ‘Old Plod’ that the first priority of the government should be defence of the nation from the threat of terrorism. I think his idea of offering substantial cash rewards for information that leads to a conviction is laudable and should be implemented immediately.

The second priority is getting a firm grip of our borders so that only those that have jobs to go to would be allowed in. This would mean a moratorium on anyone without a British passport (or work permit) being allowed into our country until such a time that the problems caused by having no policy at all and no idea how many visitors have tried to settle here is known. Until we have sufficient housing, a viable Health Service and schools for all the people who are living here now, it is not responsible government to allow more people in.

The third priority is the (belated) building of more prisons and a stop to the increasing trend to let prisoners out before they have served their sentences. This has resulted in untold further crimes and is a woeful neglect of duty towards the law-abiding majority.

On another tack, I would like you to ask Gordon Brown why he supports the Iraq court’s decision to hang Saddam Hussein because he respects their autonomy, but doesn’t respect a British Court’s decision to free BNP leader, Nick Griffin, and declare him not guilty of stirring up racial hatred? If politicians continue to invent new laws every time they don’t like the decision of a jury, our free speech will be history all too soon.

One last thought – in a democracy, aren’t we supposed to have government for the people by the people? Increasingly, all I see is government of the people by a few politicians who are very remote from the electorate - and sadly as yet, no real alternatives.

It has to be climate change!
I have recently sent a report to my own MP Humfrey Malins with a brief analysis of the Stern report in the light of recent information on boreal meltdown, now recognisd as a key issue and suggesting much greater urgency than Stern suggests.
Also in my report is evidence that technology that could have concievably prevented this situation (anti-gravity, in respect of which I provide considerable evidence is possible)was deliberately supressed in 1950s USA and perhaps more recently in Canada.
Part of such evidence is a video interview or other websites, so if anyone would like an electronic copy of my report please email me on robert.beck@ntlworld.com
My report also contains evidence of an alleged, long standing pact between the Church and Academia to discourage the discussion of unified field theory, which may explain the extreme reluctance of both to comment on my claim of Divine revelation of a better understanding of relativity, which explains precisely why neutrinos move in spirals, have mass and thus explain all forces, including gravity.
I do however, provide considerable support for my views from other dissidents, including experimental and observational evidence, and little-known experiments that can be repeated to verify my view of mass, and others demonstrating anti-gravity effects and collaborating the video evidence to which I refer.

Just a local issue but one of importance to me. Thank you for your help in getting the "temporary" advertising hoardings removed from the Plympton area. They were an illegal eyesore and you have made a contribution to the improvement of the environment A victory !!!
