MAUREEN ROLLS (Ascended Master, Animal Communicator and Healer)

Maureen has devoted much of her life to helping and campaigning for animals in need; she sensed she had the ability to communicate with animals at an early age and is now an Ascended Master in Animal Communication and Healing. Maureen uses this ability to communicate with lost and deceased animals, to discover rescued animals past history and also to heal traumatised animals with physical and emotional problems.

Maureen can communicate with animals using either a photograph or a sample of their hair, by arrangement with Maureen you can take your animal to her.

Directions: M5 Junction 30, take A376 Exmouth Road to first roundabout then A3052 (Clyst St Mary is on the left). Take the driveway to the Village Hall that’s next to the "Car Sales Garage" (on the left). (If you go under a footbridge you have missed the driveway to the Village Hall.)

For the full day workshops it is recommended that attendees bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be available.

SOUTH WEST EQUINE PROTECTION (SWEP)

SWEP is a Charity formed entirely by volunteers. Our purpose is to help equines in our region who are abandoned or suffering from neglect and cruelty, whether caused by heartlessness or ignorance. Our work involves not only the rescue and re-homing of those horses and ponies whose plight is desperate, or who have been the victims of road traffic accidents, but also promoting their welfare by offering advice and information.
To enable us to continue our work we rely on support and assistance from like minded people, this can be anything from volunteers to rehome our rescued ponies, helping at our rescue yard and at fundraising events to financial donations, however, large or small. We hold a variety of events throughout the year to advertise our cause, raise our profile and of course generate much need funds.

SWEP Membership. As well as benefiting SWEP through subscriptions or donations, Members will receive our Newsletters and are entitled to reduced rates for entries at our events. At the end of the year there is an Awards Evening where those paid up members who have accumulated the most points at our horse shows throughout that year are eligible to receive a Members Award. Members must attend the Awards evening to receive their trophy (ies) in person.

ROGER LOWE ASBESTOS MESOTHELIOMA CAMPAIGN

Monday 12th May 10am-12 is our next support meeting at Tuscanys Social Club, Legion Lane Brixton, Plymouth, PL8 2NZ. Tel (01752) 880330. Once in the village of Brixton turn off the A370 by the Church and the entrance to Legion Lane is right next to the red phone box. The lane is narrow and steep but there is plenty of free parking is available outside the building. Brixton is served by the No 93 & 94 first bus service from Bretonside station, Plymouth. Our meetings are very informal, a chat over a cup of coffee with people whose lives have been affected by asbestos disease. We would love to meet you there.

On May 26th the Campaign will be exhibiting at the Maritime Plymouth event on Plymouth Hoe (more information about the days events see here http://www.plymouthdiary.co.uk/event.php?e=8790 ). It looks like it should be a busy bank holiday event and we are hoping to meet many new families we may be able to help and to raise awareness with the general public and hopefully prevent some unnecessary future exposures to asbestos. Closer to the time we will be publicising our awareness raising stand at this event - anyone able to display a poster please let me know and I will email you a copy, if I can't get a printed one to you.

Other asbestos victims support groups have used photos of people killed by asbestos disease to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure. If any or you would like a photo and short paragraph about your loved one displayed on our stand (subject to available space) please send me a scanned photo and a few lines about them. Please include their occupation and age when they were exposed to asbestos (if known), where they lived/came from, their age when diagnosed with asbestos disease, and when they died from this disease. It is a very powerful way to get the message across about the human cost of asbestos disease.

to collect signatures for at the event, even if you could come or an hour to help collect signatures that would really help and be hugely appreciated. I am hoping to be able to show the Mesothelioma film and Debbie Brewers documentary about being diagnosed with Mesothelioma on the day, but as yet need to locate a power source for a tv & dvd for the stand. Anyone has an ideas they will be greatly appreciated! Even if you aren't able to help out or are not ready to talk to others about your personal experience of asbestos disease, it would be great to meet you on the day, so come along and leave a message in our Campaign Visitors book.

Finally we are looking to form a committee for the Campaign. This will help the Campaign to be more efficient and hopefully help us work towards doing some much needed fundraising and be able to accept kind donations which we have been offered. Anyone wishing to be on the committee or who has questions about what this entails please contact us on this address or come to the May 12th support meeting to discuss. Any help you can give, no matter how small will help the Campaign go on to support other local families whose lives have been devastated by asbestos disease.

GABLES FARM DOGS' AND CATS' HOME

We will be holding our annual open day on Saturday 26th July. Starting at 11am at Gables Farm Dogs' & Cats' Home, Plympton. We will be holding the Scruffts regional heat for the sixth year, so please bring your crossbreed dogs along and give them a chance of going to the national final. This will be followed by a family dog show. There will be lots of stalls selling bric-a-brac, books, pet accessories, jewellery, refreshments and much more. There will also be lots of games, a prize draw and entertainment.

INFORMATION FROM THE ELISABETH SVENDSEN TRUST:

The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys provides donkey-riding therapy to children with special educational needs and disabilities at purpose built Centres located in Sidmouth, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Ivybridge.

The children who attend the Centres have a wide range of disabilities; some have learning difficulties, others are physically disadvantaged or have behavioural problems, brain damage or sensory impairment.

We aim to bring enjoyment and pleasure into their lives and our work helps with their co-ordination and overall development, as well as giving them the satisfaction that comes with the achievement of learning riding skills.

During term time each Centre is fully committed to its schools timetable programme, which operates over a four-week period, offering a combination of sessions to individual schools and classes. Each Centre works with up to 150 children per week and has an average of 26 schools and groups who visit regularly. Session times can vary greatly from either full or half days to even hourly. A session length is determined by the needs of the children and the size of the class.

Holiday Club
Better known as a "drop-in," Holiday Club operates on certain days during school holidays. Children with special needs come to the Centres with their families to ride the donkeys; siblings also have the opportunity to ride at this time.
Everyone is welcome to stay at the Centre for as long as they wish, making full use of the play area facilities and at the same time getting to know other
families. Many often bring a packed lunch which can make it a full day out for all the family.

Saturday Club
These are held once a month and are run on exactly the same basis as the Holiday Club.

The Plymstock Community forum are appealing for help in organising a fantastic Community Festival in Plymstock this summer.

The main event will be on Saturday 30th August at Downhorne Park and it is likely there will be other events leading up to it.

There will be music, dancing displays, arts and crafts exhibitons, sports events and fashion shows etc and the forum are looking to recruit people to help provide and organise them.

The Watch Ashore has a website www.watchashore.org.uk which contains details of future events, also more information about the support our group is able to offer to Merchant Navy families whilst their husbands/partners/fathers/brothers are away at sea. Also our various fund raising events for local and national Maritime charities. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel from 12 noon for a light lunch followed by our Business meetings at 1330 followed by a guest speaker.

Dame Hannahs is celebrating over two hundred years of caring for young people and it is only thanks to our dedicated supporters that we can continue providing around-the-clock care and transforming young lives in the South West.

There are many ways that you can support the work that we do; by attending events, becoming a volunteer, or by making a regular donation.

Dame Hannahs holds a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. Here's what we've got planned for 2008:

Wednesday 21st May - Spring Lunch

You will be treated to a fabulous 2 course lunch and our very special guest, Maggie Allen will be regaling us with stories of her time as a BBC scriptwriter working on TV favourites such as the House of Elliott, Eastenders and Doctor Who.

Sunday 25th May - Plymouth Half Marathon
Dame Hannahs was delighted to be chosen as the Half Marathon’s nominated charity for 2008, and with thousands of people taking to the streets of Plymouth in the 13.2 mile race, the event looks to be bigger and better than ever before!

After the hugely successful event in 2007 raised 18,500 GBP we're aiming for the big 20,000 GBP in 2008!

The event is taking place at Kitley House Hotel and is definitely a day not to be missed. In previous years our Fayre has attracted stallholders from across the UK including London and Hampshire, and this year is set to be no different. There will be a variety of stalls where you will find everything from fabulous food to that last Christmas present.
