Yesterday, Gary Streeter MP joined in with an Internet Safety Awareness assembly at Boringdon Primary School.
The School invited Google to present to their Key Stage 2 children - those aged 7-11, on the vital issue of staying safe online.
They addressed a number of key questions including the dangers of oversharing, the importance of passwords, knowing when something looks too good to be true and the importance of being kind online.
Speaking after the event, Gary said:
'In typical Google style, the assembly was incredibly vibrant and great fun.
'Finding creative ways like this assembly to engage with children and young people to give them positive ways to stay safe online is crucial. In an age where even babies engage with smart phones and tablets, we must ensure that we are teaching children throughout their time in education about the positives of the internet but also ensuring they are aware of the dangers too. It is also essential that parents, carers and even grandparents realise the importance of being aware of what their children and grandchildren are engaging with online so a balance can be found between using the internet for school work and leisure, whilst also protecting them.
'I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the children and Boringdon Primary School and hope they remember the assembly for a long time - I certainly will.'
