The MP for South West Devon joined Barratt Homes at its Lucerne Fields development in Ivybridge to celebrate the five-star housebuilder’s 60th anniversary. On his visit Gary Streeter MP marked the anniversary by laying a commemorative stone.
Barratt Homes has created new communities at locations across the South West in recent years, and finance director Matthew Bennett gave Mr Streeter a tour of the local development including the show home.
Barratt Homes was founded by Sir Lawrie Barratt back in 1958 and is the UK’s largest housebuilder, building more than 17,300 homes last year. Over the past 60 years it has built 450,000 houses, helping some 2.8 million families make their home.
The five-star house builder is creating a selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Lucerne Fields, a vibrant new community in the small town of Ivybridge, which is nine miles east of Plymouth and lies on the southern border of Dartmoor National Park.
Not only will the development provide valuable new homes for the region but work at Lucerne Fields has created work for more than 600 people during the construction and sales phases.
Following the tour, Mr Streeter said: “Barratt has made a significant contribution to the area by providing much needed homes and boosting the economy with local jobs. Lucerne Fields is a testament to how a new scheme can add real value to a community by integrating contemporary designs into a traditional location.”
