Speed restrictions at Deep Lane
South West Devon MP Gary Streeter has welcomed the news that Highways England is to introduce a 50 mph mandatory speed limit on the A38 on the approaches to the Deep Lane off-slips at Plympton following safety concerns raised by the MP and local councillors about traffic queuing on the A38 at Deep Lane.
Local residents and businesses have been experiencing severe delays at peak times during the extensive improvements to Deep Lane currently being undertaken by Devon County Council and Mr Streeter has been working with local councillors to minimise these delays.
“I welcome this news,” said the Plympton MP “Many local people have contacted me expressing their concern about the likelihood of a major incident on the A38 at these junctions if more action is not taken to alert motorists to the potential of queuing traffic on the A38.”
“With the prospect of these major works continuing until March 2017 and the onset of winter it is vital that everything possible is done to minimise the risk to the travelling public.” added the MP.
