On Saturday, I had the honour of presenting 95 year old, Nelly Hassell, with two medals from her service in World War Two.
After the war ended she didn't receive her medals but her Grandson, Scott, did something about this and succeeded in securing her rightful recognition.
Nelly served in the Women's Auxillary Territorial Service, working in the officers' messes as a waitress and behind the bars and was awarded her Defence Medal and War Medal at the ceremony at the Royal Citadel on Saturday. It was my privilege to award her the medals at the ceremony in front of her friends and family.
